The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
